1585 Reader Mail

Here's the section where I respond to your e-mails (just click the contact link to send me one).  I guess I won't necessarily post every e-mail I receive — just the ones that ask questions or raise points that I feel like responding to, and that I feel it would be helpful for everyone to be able to see.  So, if you just write to say whassup or to tell me you like the site, then that's awesome, and I promise you a response back, but it won't necessarily appear here.  As far as "hate mail" goes, we are totally willing to post e-mails from people who don't like the site, as long as their e-mail is coherent/interesting (so no simple "Arrgh! Fuck you!" stuff).

    Dear 1585:

Thank you for replying.  Do you mind if we continue our correspondence?  It is rare enough that I get to have a civil, meaningful intellectual conversation with another Christian.  But a civil, meaningful intellectual conversation with an atheist?  That is too tempting to pass up, not to mention the joy that comes from working to reconcile you with God...

    Dear 1585:

I am a Christian Apologist.  Have you heard of the term?  If not, a Christian Apologist is someone who attempts to logically provide the reasons for what he/she believes.  I didn't write to try to convince you that the Old Testament stories are correct or anything else about my religion you think is ridiculous.  I just want to establish the foundation of the belief that the existence of God *is necessary* for the existence of the universe...

    Dear 1585,

I have read your essay about Mrs. Sarah Palin and I must say that I am impressed.  But I do believe that you missed a few key points.  Now I could type out all the things that you have missed about Sarah Palin, but...

    Dear Mr. Grammaticus;

In your recent first person essay you mentioned anecdotally that you are for gun control and do not believe people should be allowed to carry firearms around 24/7.  I would like to request further clarification of your views on this, as so far I find myself in opposition to them.  This is the first thing you've said I've found myself disagreeing with.  I would be very interested in your reasons for this view...

    Dear 1585,

When I first read your essays, I was glad that I finally found a website that agreed with the liberal and conservative viewpoints I have.  I used to refuse to call myself a liberal because I did not want to be associated with the UREGs.

However, I wonder, who exactly do you define as stupid?  Even though I have the same test scores and grades as my stupid peers I still got called stuff like “retard” and “insane” because of my social inadequacies and speech impediments (I did not speak until I was five).  People literally thought I was retarded...

    Dear 1585:

As a (more or less) liberal, I'm sure that you are quite familiar with the crippling force that is white guilt.  Sometimes, it seems as if the leftist standpoint is almost entirely drawn from being embarrassed about one's affluence or lack of melanin.  You've got a loyal fan base now, so maybe you can help free some of the tens of thousands of college kids who are trying to atone for something that isn't necessarily a bad thing...

    Dear 1585:

First off, love the site. Your articles are like reading new thoughts of my own I hadn't quite developed yet, for the most part. But there is something that nags at me. A few months ago, I probably wouldn't have taken any notice, but I wasn't very happy then and I now think I know why.

Have you ever read any of Ayn Rand's work?...

    Heya Lord High,

I've muttered about the abortion debate on my MySpazz a few times, not necessarily making sense. Your essay reminded me of something interesting I came across though...

    Dear 1585:

I have been reading your articles for a while now (since about 500 on the site-meter) and i always enjoy reading the newest one and getting an idea of how you see a certain prevalent issue. However, what I have noticed is a quite distinguished shift from fairly hard-line liberal ideas to some quite conservative theories on society...
